San Diego Adult Traditional Jazz Camp
The original and only music camp by AFCDJS
January 12-15, 2017
All facilities are located at the Lafayette Hotel & Suites
The faculty will demonstrate vintage instrumental techniques for performing classic jazz in a classroom setting and supervise sessions played by the students in rotating groups. Instruction will include sectionals for front line and rhythm. Instructors will sit in with student groups to assist teaching. Some faculty members will double on other instruments. Pianos and basic drum kits will be provided for students. A limited number of string basses and tubas are available.
Friday electives will be the same as last year .... Early Jazz History Parts 1 and 2 (Dan Levinson), Stage Presence and Presentation (Katie Cavera and Howie Miyata), Music Theory (John Royen), Advanced TRAD Jazz Ensemble Topics (Clint Baker). There will also be a regular camp ensemble session for anyone who does not choose to attend an elective class (Marty Eggers and Steve Apple).

All Jazz Camp facilities are located at the Lafayette Hotel & Suites. For reservations, contact the hotel at 1-619-296-2101 or make e-mail requests to RESERVATIONS@LafayetteHotelSD.com and ask for the “jazz camp” rate. Students who reserve rooms using other promotional offers or discounts will not qualify for the tuition discount. No more than two students per room will receive the tuition discount.
Tuition is $425, except when staying at the Lafayette ($375). This does not include transportation, lodging or meals.
Jazz Camp registration begins on Thursday at 3:00pm in the Lafayette Hotel Lobby.
Jazz Camp instruction officially ends at noon on Sunday, but you and a guest (at no extra charge) are welcome to attend the AFCDJS Monthly Concert/Dance from 1-4 pm featuring the Jazz Camp Instructors.
